This is a song written in the privacy of my bedroom one lonely Saturday afternoon many years ago. I wasn’t pouring over any scripture or having any deep thoughts. I just poured out my heart and said to the Lord what I needed to say in that moment. I remember I wrote it quickly and easily – maybe because I didn’t really imagine anyone else in the world hearing it! In fact, though I remember playing it for my roommate at the time, I don’t think I ever played it for anyone else. Honestly, it just sat on the shelf for years. I didn’t think it was worshipful enough to sing at church - and maybe I liked the idea of it just being a song for me alone to sing to God. But when we were choosing songs for this album and were almost finished with our list but still searching for a couple more, the Lord brought this to mind. I hadn’t thought of it in ages, and only had horrible recordings of it to reference. I thought I’d submit it, though I never thought it would be chosen.
As I started to share it with others this year, it seems they really relate with it and love the singable melody. With a few minor lyric updates and a few fresh chords added by Nathan Nockels – this is now one of my favorites songs on the project. I’m still so humbled how the Lord used my lonely day and birthed a song that I hope and pray can be a blessing to many.
INTO YOUR ARMS/Written by Sheri Carr
Though I’m tired, worn, and weak/My soul is seeking/ Guided Lord, with faith, not eyes
I am running to the sound of Your voice/ To the only thing that comforts me/ When I’m scared and so in need/ Of a peace that only You can bring
I run into Your arms/ With a weary heart in need of rest/ I run into Your arms of love/ Faithfully You hold me near/ With a perfect love that casts out fear/ I run into Your arms of love, I run
In the quiet of the night/ The silence breaks me/ Through the chaos of the day
As You hold me tenderly/You sing Your love song over me/ You bind my fear and set me free/ Lord, I’ll run the race You have for me/ I’ll run, I’ll run
