SING YOUR PRAISE

The fun chord progression for this song came from a song my brother Scott wrote more than five years ago for a band we were in together at the time.  The song wasn’t (lyrically) congregation-friendly, but we used to have so much fun with this song when we played it as a band. I kept saying I wanted to change the lyrics and turn it into a worship song – because I felt it needed to be sung by the church!  When we were choosing songs for the album, I asked Scott if I could have a crack at it, and he definitely wanted me to go for it.   The new lyrics went through several different versions as I tried to tighten up the purpose and message of the song.  I wanted a “Call to Worship” and also something evangelistic – since the idea was to “tell the nations” of His love.  I also wanted to be sure to sing about the resurrection since it seems like we don’t seem to sing about that enough!  A lot of the inspiration came from 1st Chronicles 16: 8 Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 9 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. 10 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.   23 Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. 24 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
Lyrics:
SING YOUR PRAISE Written by Scott Keller & Sheri Carr We gather in the name of Jesus To celebrate Your Son For He came and walked among us Our Messiah, sinless One You know our hearts, You know our weakness Father, You understand our pain That’s why You sent Your Son to free us From the chains of sin and shame We lift our voices to tell the nations of Your love The earth rejoices in the glory of Your name Your salvation changes life in every way Let all creation give You thanks and sing Your praise His spotless life laid on the altar Jesus, our sacrificial Lamb He bled and died, but only three days later Our Savior rose again · · · · · · © 2007 Mercy/Vineyard Publishing (ASCAP).
