Have you ever had a dentist appointment coming up and so you brush, floss, rinse, etc. right before the appointment, like it’s going to magically vanish the past 6 months of negligence? And then you act shocked when the dentist informs you of how many cavities you need filled.
I wonder if we treat our spiritual life the same way sometimes? We come to Sunday morning or maybe even communion and we say a quick prayer or read a Bible verse hoping that it will take care the week long spiritual drought. I’m so thankful that God is gracious enough to cover us with Christ in those times. But I also know how much better off I am when I’m "brushing and flossing" everyday.
Cavities can be filled, and God’s mercy and grace fills in the sin-made holes in our lives. But I guess I would rather prevent it from happening in the first place. How about you?
