I was sitting at the piano trying to write a song (which is usually a formula for failure for me) because I couldn’t find another song that reflected the love I was feeling for the Lord at that moment. I was gradually progressing through several stages of worship. I started by just enjoying the fact that I couldn’t fully understand what God has done for me, even on a day to day basis, but I could trust that God gives nothing but good gifts to His children. Then I started to get just a glimpse of how consistently He reaches out to me and how great He is compared to how needy I am.

The Lord was impressing on me that I don’t need to fear His voice. Sometimes I have a tendency to run away from God’s conviction, but He wants me to understand that conviction and condemnation are very different things. He will judge, but that does not eradicate His love for me; in fact it confirms it. He chastens those He loves, and so I know that He is paying attention to me when I see His hand active in my life, even when it hurts. I should grow hungry for those times when He corrects me because it means that I am becoming more like Him. Little children want to be just like daddy.

I was thinking about the contrasts that only God can hold. If I tried to be just and merciful at the same time, I’d blow it big time. God is capable of being the creator of all there is, and my personal Savior. He can implement justice for my sin, and also give me mercy and grace, and not contradict Himself. He is everything that matters, and yet He cares about my every need.
