I have been playing acoustic guitar and singing in venues  since 1972. My first paying gig was at the Old Warsaw Restaurant in  Bridgeview, IL. There I played Cat Stevens and James Taylor songs for tips and  dinner. I remained a solo act until the late 70’s when I joined the  Chicago Jazz Players, a 17 piece swing band in which I played rhythm guitar for  a few years. I have been lucky to  have association with many types of players causing me to enjoy playing  everything from bluegrass to rock and everything in between.

The big  change in my musical expression is when I dedicated my talents to God. It  was 1990 when I started to play rhythm guitar every Sunday on the worship  team at Emmanuel Bible Church in Berwyn, IL. It was out of this worship team that the Christian Folk Rock Band BENDED KNEE was born. I played guitar and sang in BENDED KNEE. BENDED KNEE had a fair local and regional following, selling a few thousand copies of their only CD entitled “It’s Never Too Late”. Bended Knee disbanded in 2002 when my wife, Jan and I moved to Sheboygan WI. It was there in Sheboygan that I was blessed to be called to service as a worship pastor at the Harbor Community Church until 2006, when a chain of events brought us back to the Chicago area.  I am currently back in  Illinois, and serving as a lead guitar player at a local church as well as playing my original God inspired songs in coffee houses in the Midwest. My most rewarding musical endeavor still remains in leading God’s people in worship. I have on occasion had the opportunity to candidate for a worship pastor position here in northwestern Chicago Land area. I have not yet been blessed with a position, but I will continue to respond to any invitation that God sends my way. In the mean time I have a good job, and many opportunities to serve.

Day By Day

by David Roberts on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 12:36pm

During a time when I felt so very far away from God, and things were not going well in a lot of ways, this song came to me. I was in the desert and being temped to say God did not care about me. I had had a vision of where I was going in my life and ministry that was very clear at one point, and that had become blurred. I am ageing. I will be 52 this year, and the thoughts; that my best years were behind me, I don’t have an education, people want to hear and see the young people anyhow.
