The inspiration for this song came from the triumphal entry. The crowd is praising Jesus, and the Pharisees rebuke Him for it. In Luke 19:40 Jesus says, "I tell you…if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."
There is something in our very nature that needs to praise Jesus, to praise God, and He simply must be praised.
Verse 1
Mouths filled with Your praise
For Your faithfulness endures
Our lips sing of Your joy
Your mercy must be heard
Chorus
We shout Your praise. Can’t keep it down, down
We shout Your praise. A pure and true sound
Our hearts are filled with wonder for Your amazing grace
We shout Your praise
Verse 2
We sing to tell Your glory
Declaring, "Our God Reigns"
If our tongues were silent
The rocks would cry Your name
(Chorus)
Bridge
You carried our sin into the grave
You broke the shackles of death, and with You we’re raised
(Chorus)
