The inspiration for this song came from reading so many of the Psalms and reflecting on their soulful heart cries, like Psalm 130:
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD;
O Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.
and Psalm 142:
I cry to you, O Lord;
I say, “You are my refuge,
my portion in the land of the living.”
Listen to my cry,for I am in desperate need;
rescue me from those who pursue me,
for they are too strong for me.
Set me free from my prison,
that I may praise your name.
Verse:
Comforter, Deliverer, Lord, I need you now
I come to You, exalted King. At Your feet I bow
Lord, hear my cry. From the depths my voice will rise
Chorus:
Lord I call out Your name, the God who saves
Ev’ry prison of shame Your hand can break
Your arms are mighty and filled with compassion and grace
I praise the God who saves
Verse 2:
Sing to me, my Prince of Peace, lifter of my head
Break these chains that bind my heart. Bring me hope instead
Lord, hear my cry, I need the God who breaths new life
