Psalm5:7 "ButI, by Your great mercy, will come into Your house; in reverence will I bow downtoward Your holy temple…”
Not too long ago I had an interesting experience. I was in a hotel room inNashville, Tennessee recuperating from working on my latest recording project, when I inadvertently looked out my large bay window towards I-40 by the airport. Suddenly, I saw police motorcycles pass by,one….two….three…..eight….ten….and then police cars and black SUV’s with antennas on top go by. Something big was going on in this town. At the end ofthe motorcade were ambulances and firetrucks following. Then I remembered thatthe president of the United State of America was in town. Could this be thepresidential motorcade driving by my hotel? It certainly was. There had to beover 40 different vehicles pass by in its entirety.
I remember feeling a sense of awe and wonder. I thought about all the power andtechnology that was represented in that mile-long motorcade. In it represented the power to make life-altering and history-altering decisions and the power to protect the president from any would-be attackers. Then, several minutes later, I saw Air Force One prepare for take off. It was an absolutely huge and regal looking airplane. Needless to say, I was in awe. There was a moment of patriotic reverence that overtook me.
When thinking about God, how much more reverent and in awe should we be? He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the Sovereign and all-powerful God of the universe who is surrounded by the host of heaven who sing praise to His holy name night and day. This is the God who spoke the universe into existence with the power of His word. This is the God who will judge the nations someday in His righteousness and wisdom. This is the God who sent His one and only, beloved Son to die on the cross for our sins. Should we not be in more awe of Him every day of our lives? Should we not stand in allegiance with His Word and His way in all that we do?
How often do we come into His sanctuary utterly unamazed at Him? I know that I have been guiltyof that many times in my life. We should never forget that this God is our Father and our Friend in Christ and that we have access to Him through His Word and His Holy Spirit. But we should never come to Him in a disrespectful manner, forgetting just how high and exalted He is and how needy and dependent we arefor Him. When is the last time that you and I stood in awe of God? The more I study Scripture for myself, the more I begin to realize just how huge, holy and powerful God is and how much honor, reverence and worship He deserves from me.
